Craig Equipment accepts dust samples from Kentucky and Southern Indiana manufacturers and sends them to a qualified laboratory for combustible dust testing. A usable sample weighs 1 to 2 lb (500 g to 1 kg) without the container and is best taken from inside the dust collector or its hopper, or from high beams and ledges. Seal it in an airtight container, label it, and ship it to Craig Equipment in Louisville with the Sample Submission Form and the material’s Safety Data Sheet.
Safety first: collect samples without raising a dust cloud, wear appropriate PPE, and follow your lockout procedures before opening a dust collector.
Ship 1–2 lb (500 g–1 kg) of dust in sealed, labelled containers with the Sample Submission Form and SDS.
The best sample comes from the dust caught on the filters inside your dust collector. It represents what your system actually handles.
The hopper, drum or bin under the dust collector is the next best source, and usually the easiest to reach.
No dust collector? Collect from high, undisturbed surfaces where fine dust settles: tops of beams, light fixtures and ledges away from traffic.
Send 1 to 2 lb (500 g to 1 kg) of dust, not counting the container. A Go/No-Go test alone needs at least 100 grams, but a full series of tests needs more — and a 1 m³ challenge test needs 15 lb (6.8 kg). Collecting enough the first time avoids a second trip.
